When you get ready to move, it’s important to create a quick moving guide for yourself so you know what to do and when to do it. A decent relocation guide also helps prevent you from waiting until the last minutes to get everything done. Here is an abbreviated move guide that will help you get organized weeks before you move.
6-8 Weeks Before Your Move:
Check with the movers you hired to ensure you are on the schedule for the correct date. Also, you should start thinking about what to take with you and what to throw away, donate, or leave behind.
4-5 Weeks Before Your Move:
Start the procedure to change your address. Visit your local post office and get the necessary forms and fill them out. Either give the forms back to a postal clerk or drop them in the mail. Also, begin contacting utility companies to find out the process of disconnecting your service from your old home and connecting it at your new place.
3 Weeks Before Your Move:
Make transportation arrangements for your pets and for moving your automobile if you are not driving.
2 Weeks Before Your Move:
Transfer all of your prescriptions and medical records to a pharmacy and doctor near your new home. Also, make final confirmations with your moving company and other services you will be using on the day of your move.
1 Week Before Your Move:
Mark your moving boxes so you know what is in them and make any final preparations. Also, do any last minute things so moving day can be as smooth as possible.
Connect Utilities:
Contact your utility companies (phone, cable, electricity, gas) to have your services connected before you move in or the day of your move.
Move Day:
Hand over any keys, alarm codes or anything else to the landlord or realtor. Also, be available on-site when the movers arrive to show them what needs to be done.
Settling In:
Start unpacking and enjoy!
Use this short moving guide to help make your moving day as seamless and smooth as possible!
